Calculating your true take-home pay is unnecessarily complicated. Between progressive federal brackets, FICA limits, variable state rules, and local municipal withholdings, most taxpayers have no idea exactly where their hard-earned dollars are going. Many online calculators are outdated, slow, and cluttered with layout-shifting advertisements that ruin the user experience.
SalarySplitHub was created to make that estimate easier to inspect. The calculator separates federal income tax, state income tax, FICA, supported local taxes, and user-entered pre-tax deductions. It runs in your browser and does not require an account.
How the estimate is calculated
We apply the selected filing status, federal standard deduction and progressive federal brackets, then calculate Social Security and Medicare taxes. State rules are applied separately because brackets, deductions, exemptions, and treatment of retirement or HSA contributions vary by state. Results are annualized and then divided into common pay periods.
The calculator is an estimate, not a payroll withholding engine or tax return. It does not model every credit, itemized deduction, dependent, bonus method, employer benefit, reciprocal-state agreement, nonresident rule, self-employment tax, or city and county tax. New York City is included only when its local option is selected. Actual paychecks can differ.
Primary data sources
Rates and thresholds are maintained from public government material. The principal sources are:
- Federal brackets and standard deductions: Internal Revenue Service
- Social Security and Medicare rates: Social Security Administration and IRS Topic No. 751
- California income tax rates: California Franchise Tax Board (FTB)
- New York state and New York City income tax rates: New York Department of Taxation and Finance
- Texas state revenue and property tax guidelines: Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts
- Florida state revenue guidelines: Florida Department of Revenue
Review and corrections
Calculator changes are tested against representative salaries before publication. Every state guide displays its data review date. Because tax agencies can issue mid-year guidance, we welcome corrections that include a link to the relevant government publication. Send them through our contact page.
Ownership and independence: SalarySplitHub is independently operated and is not affiliated with the IRS, SSA, or any state tax agency. The site may display advertising to support its operating costs; advertisers do not control calculator results or editorial content.
